Turnabout/Stillwater Academy serves male and female students 12 to 17 years of age. We offer a one of a kind treatment model that helps families who have experienced profound family disruptions find healing and success. Through our unique approach, students who have had traumatic family experiences (adoption, attachment issues, traumatic divorce, abuse, maladaptive family systems) are kept in a family setting with real families who are extensively trained and licensed and provide a naturally supportive family environment that encourages healthy relationship development. These families are highly committed to the program and the students they serve and are an invaluable part of the treatment team.
Each student’s individual treatment plan may include individual therapy, group therapy, substance abuse treatment, equine assisted therapy, psycho-educational groups, an individualized academic plan and in-house psychiatric services. In addition to weekly sessions with their student’s counselor, parents from around the country participate weekly in a therapeutic group facilitated by our clinical director and their student’s counselor. These groups provide a unique opportunity for parents to grow, change and share with other parents who are experiencing similar challenges.
Stillwater Academy is fully accredited by the Northwestern Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAAS) and all classes are taught by the Utah Certified Teachers. Our small classes and unique credit recovery system are designed to help students meet the requirements for high school graduation, rediscover a love of learning, and provide a successful educational experience that supports the emotional, mental and social growth development of each student. On average our students achieve a 1.5 grade point increase in their cumulative GPA while attending Stillwater Academy.
