Penrith Farms, a therapeutic community for young adults, was established in 1983 and offers a unique and innovative community designed to assist troubled and challenged young adults in the acquisition of essential life skills. Our residents learn the importance of personal accountability, effective communication, and appropriate coping skills while living in, and contributing to, a therapeutic, family-based farm community. At Penrith, we pride ourselves on our ability to offer dynamic psychotherapy and equine therapy coupled with an in-depth horsemanship program with educational, and recreational options.
All residents participate in Penrith’s Independent Living Skills Curriculum, where they learn the importance of personal, financial, occupational, and academic responsibility.
Through a multitude of vocational training opportunities and community projects, residents of Penrith Farms develop a solid work ethic, while gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to build the foundation for future success. Penrith Farms offers vocational training in the following areas: Animal Husbandry, Basic Automobile Mechanics, Culinary Arts, General Construction, Greenhouse Production, Music (Keyboard/Piano, Vocals, Guitar, Bass and Drums), Music Studio Production, Organic Gardening, Visual Arts, Woodworking, and an Outdoorsman Safety Program.
Penrith Farms provides a variety of interventions as a part of the therapeutic milieu including weekly individual and group therapy, and family therapy conducted as needed. Penrith Farms utilizes a variety of spontaneous and planned therapeutic interventions to create a dynamic environment where community residents are challenged on a regular basis to achieve personal growth.
